Here at Anime Chaos we do things a bit differently. Our reviews are progressive. Meaning that we give a review based on the complete series itself, not just specific volumes. We prefer to create reviews based on the entirety of the series because of a few reasons:

  • Some anime start the series off very lackluster and yet as a whole can be very good.
  • A few series start off with a huge bang and just become duds as they progress.
  • We see the ending of the series to be a very important, if not -the- most important part of any series. Was it worth the wait? Or was it a huge disappointment?
  • Characters develop over time and sometimes aren't even introduced in the first or second volumes of a series. The character may have been refined or redefined as the series progressed.
  • Is it worth your time and money to even watch? Did you purchase the first volume or two and wonder if its worth completing?

So for every series, A.C. will have 1 page for our official review. If we've only started or just have a couple volumes watched we'll mention it in the "review progress" section of that series review. As for movies and one-shots, we'll do reviews on them just as stand-alone volumes.

Also....all our official reviews we watch dubbed! Yes, dubbed! Might just be a personal thing, but we don't like to read on our TV. Also the series comes at you much more natural and to us simply more enjoyable. The only time we'll review something subbed is when its the only option available.

  • Official A.C. reviews will be broken into 5 sections:

  • Product Specs - Episode count, running time, view ratio, special limited edition facts, collectors box included?, etc.
  • On the Box - Basically just a pic of the product and a verbatim copy of -only- the 1st volume synopsis you would find on the case. Way too many spoilers if we posted them all.
  • The Review - You guessed it, the review! We'll tend to be pretty blunt and not pull any punches. There may or may not be spoilers, whatever it takes for us to get our view across. We're not going to show any bias towards any company. If we like it, we'll let you know. If we hated it..well..you'll probably enjoy the read.
  • Opening & Closing sequences - The animation quality and theme song can really help define a series. It can also give you a clue as to what is to come, such as animation and sound quality. Does it really suit the anime or just for show?
  • Animation & Audio - Top notch CG animation or old school 70's cel animation? Was the voice acting any good? Did it have a killer soundtrack?

Non-official / guest reviews can use whatever format they choose. They can go by our format above, or simply write a standard review. Also, guest reviews do not have to be progressive like ours. They can be volume by volume if so desired.

As for our rating system, we use a standard 10 point scale. 1 being the absolute worst and 10 being absolute perfection.

We hope you can enjoy reading up on our reviews just as much as we enjoy making them, and thanks for visiting Anime Chaos!
