A new law has been passed in Tokyo...

Ordinary people are now allowed to freely carry firearms. Crime has turned citizens against each other in a fight for survival on the city's mean streets. Thanks to the Recent Armed Police of Tokyo, the arrest rate is going down. After all, the only prison a dead man needs is a hole in the ground.

RAPT is taking away jurisdiction from local authorities quicker than they can draw their guns. In these dark times, an angel arrives on Earth. No one is sure if she came from up above or down below, but with her partners Sei, Amy, and Meg, Jo's the best chance this town's got.

If you want an action packed babe feast with plenty of eye-candy, then here you go. Burst Angel provides a non-stop volley of gun battles, mechs, and ass-kickings all around. The only problem is a lack of plot.

Our main character the blue-haired "Jo" is one mean mercenary that's unmatched in battle. Her past is clouded and unknown. Her sidekick, the comic relief, Meg is a busty cowgirl from the states whose goal is to just make a buck and feed her bottomless stomach.

The pair is hired by Sei, who's connections with the government are still bewildering even after the series end. She hires Amy who is an elite hacker that can get into any system reminiscent of Ed from Cowboy Bebop. Her last employee is Kyo, an aspiring chef.....yes a chef.

At the start of the series its nothing short of a massive action-packed saga complete with mechs with long trails of blood and no end in sight. The very first episode will have you hooked....at least for a volume or two. There is a basic storyline and an evil corporation to take down, but nothing terribly original. A few big bangs, a few big boobs, and its next episode please.

Jo and Meg are very well and heavily developed characters. They go into their past, origins, and really make them diverse with an emphasis on Jo. The other characters could get shot and nobody would notice. The only male character, Kyo, is a completely worthless addition to the cast....even though the first 2 episodes put him at the center of attention. He's surrounded by gun toting hotties and all he wants to do is cry and bake a cake. About half way through the series you don't even see the poor guy anymore. Sei comes off as the mother figure and just ruins the flow of the show half the time. Amy fills her role well, but smaller the better in this case. Jo is by far the most intriguing, original, and not to mention coolest character this series offers.

Besides all the action, there is a heck of a lot of fan-service in every episode. So much so that it gets downright annoying and actually detracts from the shows appeal. Given Sei's huge knockers and the clothes she wears there may has well been arrows superimposed on the screen saying "look here they're big!" Sexy, hot, and steamy is one thing. Sluttish and distasteful is another. Every episode it's shoved in your face till you suffocate and turn blue.

As the series progresses, a few other sub-characters are introduced, little corporate plots are unfolded, and more boobs are bouncing along. Granted the action scenes are very well done, but where is the plot I ask? Its really not until late in the series when things start making just a little sense.

The series ends with a bang and a thud. Meg cries, big battle ensues, the end. What just happened? Admittingly the end will leave you looking for a second season, which was rumored to be in pre-production at the time of this review. Unfortunately it looks like that may never come to pass. The way the series ended it was obvious that a second season was planned and it effected the closing dramatically. Its was a decent ending, some closure, but loose ends and strings unstrung leaves a lot of anticipation for a second series.

Overall it was a fun show. The action kept your attention (so did the coconuts), but don't look for a brain teaser. The story was weak and predictable. On the flip side Jo, perhaps the coolest character in an anime we've yet to see, alone is worth watching this series. Her character design is completely original and her personality and attitude are unhindered. If you don't watch it for the hoots, watch it for Jo's boots (in someones...........).

Somewhat of a mixed feeling on the opening sequence. Its well done, good animation quality, very good opening theme, but uses a lot of footage that's in the show itself. If it wasn't for that it would have been a real eye catcher.

The closing just zooms out on a collage of still pics with some cheesy music that really has no business in this series. Low grade and pointless.

Animation and audio is top notch and they can really show off some good CG. English and Japanese tracks are both in Dolby 5.1 and very crisp.

One thing that needs to be pointed out is the cover art on the DVD cases. It's some of the best quality artwork found on any slipcase. The pic of Jo on the front cover of disc 1 is extremely well done.
