This
series has it all! Babes, guns, pointy hair freaks, and
a classic VW Beetle! Mikura and the DSA aren't just detectives
or assassins....oh no....they do whatever job it takes to
pay the bills. They'll hunt down vengeful biologist, save
the world for aliens, and even escort the most lethal virus
known to man. If it leads to a feast of noodles, Kurokawa
will take the job (whether the others like it or not).
Mikura,
the sexy but highly skilled pink-haired assassin, is as
cute as she is deadly. The very first amazing episode in
this series shows just how insane she can be. She can toss
the bad guy through walls as if they were paper, pop ya
in the knee-cap while doing a flip, and even toss little
girls out windows. Yes, this series has it all.
Kurokawas
is the supposed brains of the outfit, although; that may
be stretching it a bit. He an ex-cop with ties to the underworld
and closer ties with the current chief of police. He can
always be counted on for intel and a bowl of noodles.
Harada,
a total tech-head, has knowledge of making cyborgs and computer
hacking. All the basics the DSA needs. Last but not least
there is Asami, a little girl who in the first episode witnessed
just how amazing Mikura is, and strives to be just like
her. She ends of tracking her down at the DSA headquarters
and joins as a trainee.
From
the very start this series kicks off at a fast pace and
very rarely lets off the gas. Each episode is very unique
and entertaining. You got aliens trying to flood the earth,
ghosts trying to stop a murder, and guys having affairs
with robots. Even when confronted with their business rivals
"The Black Scissors" you can't get by the ironic
fact they operate out of a barber shop. Boredom and repetition
is not a part of this show by any stretch of the imagination.
The
entire series has a great humorous tone to it. Harada throws
a fit every time his pink VW gets a scratch.....and it's
not the kind of car you expect to see in high speed chases.
Mikura has no problem being a "princess" and is
always making some kind of wise-crack at the "old man".
Yes the quips roll off the tongue faster than Harada is
losing his hair.
Its
not all straight humor, but a lot of serious moments and
intense action as well. Characters and their history aren't
left in the dust either. Every cast member's origin is exposed
including some snippets from the original Mezzo Forte OVA
regarding Mikura's dark past. Every player is well developed
and holds their own vital role.
If
we had one complaint it's that there is no major storyline
in the shadows. A majority of the episodes are self-contained.
Small sub-plots are developed over the course of the show,
but its mostly about the characters and not any one major
or epic struggle.
The
series ends with a bang and a rebirth...a well plotted cap
to an action packed, over-the-top martial arts mayhem kind
of series. Mezzo is a must-see for any anime fan. |
